The National War Memorial, located in the heart of New Delhi, stands as a solemn tribute to the brave soldiers of the Indian Armed Forces who laid down their lives for the nation since Independence in 1947. Inaugurated on 25 February 2019, the memorial is built around the Amar Chakra, an eternal flame symbolizing immortality. The design features four concentric circles — Amar Chakra (Circle of Immortality), Veerta Chakra (Circle of Bravery), Tyag Chakra (Circle of Sacrifice), and Rakshak Chakra (Circle of Protection). It bears the names of over 25,000 martyrs engraved on stone tablets, preserving their legacy for generations. The memorial serves as a poignant reminder of India’s military history — covering battles from 1947–48, 1962, 1965, 1971, 1999 Kargil Conflict, and other significant operations including Op Pawan (Sri Lanka) and Op Meghdoot (Siachen). Note: Entry is free for all visitors. The best time to visit is during the evening hours to witness the beautifully illuminated premises and the daily Change of Guard Ceremony.
