Siang Valley is known for its breathtaking landscapes, pristine rivers, and vibrant
ecosystem. The valley, named after the Siang River, is a haven for nature lovers and
adventure enthusiasts, while its indigenous communities offer a rich cultural experience,
preserving traditions and customs.
IIn 1962, as tensions with China escalated, the Siang Frontier Division was a key
defensive area for India. By February, posts were established at Gelling, and by
September, seven new Assam Rifles posts were set up in anticipation of the Chinese
threat. The sector was divided into three sub-sectors: Menchuka, Manigong, and Tuting,
each with designated Indian units to defend strategic locations.
Note: Since some regions in Siang are situated at an altitude of more than 9000 feet above sea level, tourists are advised to follow the acclimatization process. Please refer to the PDF attached in the important links section.
